Terri has visited our school with both her award-winning books and programs over the past 6 months. The mindful garden sessions where a great success with all of our students and teachers. We went on to purchase the Mindful Garden Program for our school and over the past 6mths we have noticed a Big change within our students not just with their social emotional learning but also their creative writing and imagination. The children created their own booklets and art around their own mindful gardens, we used this across all of our classroom. It was a joy to work with Terri and her team.

Terri Allen visited to our school where she conducted an impactful and wonderful mindfulness visit with her award-winning book Magical Garden. Terri also held training with our staff on the Mindful Garden Program that we purchased for our school. I think my favourite thing about this book is the fact that it is so child centred from the point of view that it helps them to address their emotions and the many things that can happen in our lives everyday lives by using characters and images throughout the book. Exploring their emotions by just choosing a colour or a tree and it's something that children can really understand it's something concrete for them to be able to imagine and to use in their everyday life and that's part of the book that I really enjoyed the fact that they are using the fundamentals of colors and associating those colors with their emotions in creating their own garden, plus the appendix at the back of each to read about what’s going on emotionally it’s a powerful tool for any teacher. The teachers found these books a fantastic tool for them to use within the classroom, as they are dealing with very young children, it helped them identify how there where feeling and it was a wonderful tool for them to use on a daily basis to bring mindfulness into the classroom.

Terri conducted the wellbeing workshops with the children using her Mindful Garde Program and Books. It is very important for the children of our school to have a sense of wellbeing and Terri delivered just that. It helped the children with their creativity and Social Emotional Learning, it gave them a place they could go to in their minds, to be able to be more relaxed and grounded. Our school purchased the Mindful Garden Program and books for our classrooms.

As a counsellor, I see and use many books but My Magical Garden and My Magical Tree Books are very unique and creative because other books tell you what to think, whereas these books give you the power and the motivation to think outside of the box and every choice a child makes it tells them emotionally where they are at on that day and for a counsellor this is a very insightful tool to have. The children really enjoyed Terri’s visit it was a lot of fun and it actually gave the children an insight into their friend’s feelings and allowed them to have more empathy and to think more differently.
